Caching the cause of the white screen of death after a site migration

Last Updated on November 19, 2020

Ah, the dreaded WordPress white screen of death – it’s not fun to find.

Now, if you can see the site fine when logged in, but once you log out it’s a white screen of nothingness, it’s likely it’s your caching plugin.

Lately, I’ve discovered the root cause of two of these blank screen experiences have been caused by the caching plugin – namely WP Rocket. Disabling the plugin got the site visible again.

The takeaway, is perhaps don’t use caching plugins on dev sites, or if you do, deactivate them prior to a migration.
